Short answer: To get more Google reviews, make a free review link or QR code from your Google Business Profile, then ask every customer for a review at the right moment: on WhatsApp after the job, on the bill, or on a QR card at the counter. Reply to every review. Never offer discounts or freebies in return, because Google says such incentives are strictly prohibited.
A lot of happy customers never get round to leaving a review. Usually it’s not because they didn’t like you. Nobody asked, and finding the right page on Google takes effort.
So the trick to getting more Google reviews isn’t anything clever. It’s making it easy, and asking every single time.
Why do Google reviews matter for a local business?
Two reasons. First, people read them before they call you. Second, they help you show up on Google Maps. Google’s own help page says: “More reviews and positive ratings can help your business’s local ranking.”
Google also says honest, balanced reviews help customers decide, and that “a mix of positive and negative feedback often feels more trustworthy.” So don’t panic over one 3-star review. Reply to it calmly.
How do you get your Google review link?
- Open your Business Profile from business.google.com, or search your business name on Google while logged in.
- Tap Read reviews, then Get more reviews.
- Copy the link, or download the QR code.
One small catch: Google says the QR code can only be made from a computer browser, not from your phone. The link works from both.
We use exactly this link for Team Elivate’s own profile. It opens straight to the review box, so the customer only has to tap the stars and type.
Where should you share the review link?
| Where | When |
|---|---|
| WhatsApp message | Right after the job is done or the order is delivered |
| Bill or receipt | Printed at the bottom with a short line |
| QR card at the counter | While the customer is paying |
| Thank-you email | A day after the visit |
| Facebook or Instagram | Once in a while, as a friendly request |
What should you say when asking for a review?
Keep it short and personal. Send it when the customer is happiest, like right after you fixed their AC or delivered their cake. Here’s a WhatsApp message you can copy:
Hi Neha ji, thank you for choosing us today! If you have one minute, could you share your experience on Google? It really helps a small business like ours. Here’s the link: [your review link]
Ask for their honest experience, not for “5 stars”. Google’s rules count “coercing or pressuring customers for specific ratings or reviews” as rating manipulation.
What is not allowed when collecting reviews?
- No discounts, freebies or cashback for reviews. Google calls these incentives “strictly prohibited”. That includes “10% off if you review us”.
- No pressure for a certain star rating. Ask for honest feedback only.
- No reviews from people with a conflict of interest, like family or staff. Google’s policy covers reviews “biased by a personal or professional conflict of interest”.
- No buying reviews. Google lists “soliciting fake reviews” as rating manipulation.
How should you reply to Google reviews?
Google recommends replying to reviews to show customers their feedback matters. Its tips: keep replies short, don’t turn them into ads, and don’t paste the same “Thank you!” under every review.
- Good review: thank them by name and mention what they bought. “Thanks Rahul, so glad you liked the paneer rolls!”
- Bad review: stay calm, say sorry for the trouble, and offer to fix it on a call or WhatsApp. Other customers read how you handle complaints.
A simple weekly review routine
- Save your review link in WhatsApp as a quick reply.
- Send it to every customer after the job or delivery.
- Put the QR code on your counter and on your bills.
- Once a week, reply to every new review.
- Don’t ask the same person twice if they didn’t respond.

Open your Business Profile, tap Read reviews, then Get more reviews, and copy the link. You can also download a QR code, but Google says the QR code can only be made from a computer browser.
Can I give a discount to customers who leave a review?
No. Google says offering free or discounted goods or services in exchange for reviews is strictly prohibited. Ask for honest feedback without any reward.

Yes. Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help your business’s local ranking, along with a complete, verified profile.

Yes. Reply calmly, apologise for the problem and offer to fix it. Google recommends replying to reviews, and future customers read how you handle complaints.
