Short answer: To get your business on Google Maps in Delhi, create a free Google Business Profile at business.google.com/add, fill in your name, category, address or service area, phone and hours, then verify it. Google says verification reviews take up to 5 business days. After that, keep the profile complete and collect reviews so you show up higher.
When someone in Rohini searches “cake shop near me”, Google often shows a small map with a few local businesses before any website. If your shop isn’t in that box, most people never scroll down to find you.
The good part? Getting your business on Google Maps doesn’t cost anything. It doesn’t take long to set up. The waiting part is Google checking it.
Is it free to list your business on Google Maps?
Yes. Google’s help page says it plainly: “You can add or claim your business at no charge.” If someone calls you saying they are “from Google” and asks for money to list you on Maps, be careful.
How do you add your business to Google Maps?
- Go to business.google.com/add and sign in with your Google account.
- Type your business name. Use the exact name on your signboard.
- Pick the category that best describes what you do, like “Bakery” or “Dentist”.
- Add your shop address. If customers don’t visit you, add the areas you serve instead (more on this below).
- Add your phone number and website, if you have one.
- Choose a verification option and follow the steps on screen.
How does Google verify your business?
Google decides which methods you get. You can’t choose freely. Depending on your business, you may see:
- Phone call or SMS with a code
- Email with a code
- Video recording of your shop, signboard and work. Google recommends this one if it’s offered.
- Live video call, only during your business hours
- Postcard by mail, not available for every business
Google says verification reviews “take up to 5 business days”, and postcard codes usually arrive “within 14 days”. Until you are verified, you can’t edit your business info or reply to customers.
What if you don’t have a shop customers can visit?
Plenty of businesses in Delhi work from home or go to the customer: electricians, tutors, home bakers, AC repair, designers. Google calls these service-area businesses.
Google’s rule is clear: “If you don’t serve customers at your business address, remove your address from your Business Profile.” Instead you add the areas you cover, like Rohini, Pitampura or Shalimar Bagh. You can add up to 20 service areas, and Google suggests keeping them within about 2 hours of driving from your base.

Why isn’t my business showing up on Google Maps?
Usually it’s one of three things. Google says local results depend on relevance, distance and prominence.

Also check the simple things. Is the profile verified? Did you just make an edit? When we changed our own phone number, Google showed “It may take up to 7 days to be published.” New changes are not instant.
Can you pay Google to rank higher on Maps?
No. In Google’s words: “There’s no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google.” You can run ads that appear on Maps, but those are marked as ads. The normal Maps ranking can’t be bought.
Checklist for a strong Google Business Profile
- Real business name, same as your signboard
- Correct main category, plus 1–2 extra ones if they fit
- Phone and WhatsApp that you actually answer
- Opening hours, including holiday hours
- A short description of what you do and where
- Real photos of your shop, products or work
- A link to your website
- Reviews from real customers, with a reply to each one
Mistakes that can get your profile suspended
- Adding extra words to your name. “Sharma Sweets” is fine. “Sharma Sweets Best Mithai Shop Rohini” is not. Google says including unnecessary information in your business name isn’t permitted and could lead to suspension.
- Showing a home address when customers don’t visit you there.
- Changing name, address or category again and again right after verification. Google itself warns against it.
- Buying fake reviews. They go against Google’s rules and can be removed.
